Best Barbados Beaches

Barbados is absolutely the right place for all lovers of beaches. The season here starts at January and continues to June. Temperatures range from 24 to 29C thoughout the year. Off the season it can rain, but its not serious - pours are slight and short. The Island of Barbados has a lot to offer. I can say for sure there is a perfect place for every taste. Landscapes vary a lot. The reason for that is Barbados is located between the Caribbean sea on the west and the Atlantic on the east.

Barbados Beaches on the North Coast. The presence of cliffs ranging from 50 to 100metres rising and falling along the coast, separated by many little beaches and bays make the area very interesting.  Here the Atlantic swells in the many little bays make up for the reduced presence of sands. The landscapes with rocky with spectacular cliffs are amazing. This area provides wonderful spots for picnics, magnificent views, most of them approachable by tracks. Some of the best beaches on this coast are:

Bath Beach - Although the beach is situated on the East Coast the beach is ideal for swimming, waves are small to medium. The reason for that are the many reefs which protect the beach. If you taka a walk north along the wonderful beaches you will reach a small waterfall and the remains of a railway line, that connected Bridgetown and Bathsheba in the past.

Crane Beach - In the past this beach served as a harbour. This is also one the most beautiful beaches on Barbados. Here is situated the oldest and may be the best resort on the island - The Crane Beach Hotel. The place is perfect for beginner surfers and body surfing. In the same time there are sheltered coves which are ideal for swimming.

Bottom Bay - The best is located near the famous Sam Lord's Castle. The golden sands, the cave, coconut palms, the crystal turquoise waters. The beauty of this place in breathtaking. The place is perfect for picnics, not so much for swimming. There are undertows, so be careful if you decide to swim anyway.

Cattlewash Beach - Here the coast-line is the longest of all on the island. This is a great place for sunbathing and relaxing, rather than swimming as there the waves are strong are the undertows too. The landscapes are very beautiful on this beach as there are many picturesque cliffs.

Bathsheba - This is probably the most popular and charming place in Barbados - with its amazing landscapes it can fascinate everybody. But that is far not all we can say. The small fishing village fills with crowds of people when the time for surf contests arrive. This beach is surfing spot on the island of Barbados. But....if you're not a surfer there are many pools and reefs which are ideal for snorkelling and sunbathing.

Barbados Beaches on the South Coast. Here are great white sandy beaches with small waves suitable for swimming and because of the riffs for snorkelling too. Very good place for diving and kite surfing. On the South Coast can be found hotels and restaurants of all price ranges. Beaches that should be visited on the coast:

Dover Beach - this is also one of the most popular beaches. There are amenities for many sport activities. It is perfect place for snorkelling ,swimming, body surfing and others. This lovely beach is also very appropriate for children.

Silver Sands Beach - this is a very windy beach. That's why it is ideal for kite surfing windsurfing and every year here is held the Waterman Festival in the month of February. This is a contest for surfing, kite surfing and windsurfing.

Long Beach - this is isolated beach with an amazing views to the crystal waters and cliffs.

For all who want something adventurous, something different. If you're sick of the traditional destinations - you can find the bewitching island of Zanzibar. It is a semi - autonomous part of the United Republic of Tanzania, East Africa. Zanzibar is very interesting place to visit. The capital - Stone Town is steeped in history. The beaches - definitely worth visiting, we can say the same for the nature - untouched by humans with possibility to walk through the habitat of very interesting species - red colobus monkey for example.

In Stone Town you feel like the time stopped a few centuries ago. The doors, the markets are giving you this feeling. You can see people still use dhows like they did in the past. The contact with locals can be very interesting. A walk through Stone Town can give you a visual of the slave trading era. The city was the biggest trade center for slaves on the east coast of the continent. Nowadays on the place of the market is situated a church. Species trade was also very well developped - nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper. Most important were cloves - Zanzibar was the leading producer in world.

The winding alleys, the doors and buildings are part of the fascinating architecture of the city. It is a result of the influence of Indian, European, African and Arabic cultures. Here we can also mention the British cilture as this was the starting point for most of the expeditions in 19century. All that and the incredible beauty of Zanzibar beaches make it one of the most attractive destinations.

That is only a small part of all that Zanzibar can propose for the tourists. As we already mentioned the nature is very interesting. This is the only place where Red Colobus Monkey live. Manny bird and butterfly species can be observed. Whales can be seen from the coast during the migration period. Two kinds of dolphins inhabit the area. They nest on the island and often creep on the beaches searching the appropriate place. The vegetable life is not less interesting – mangroves, coconut and banana trees. In The History of Zanzibar spices take very important place. They are no longer the main source of income for the economy, yet here are numerous spice plantations on the island. Jozani Forest Tour

Jozani is a forest which is endemic for the island. It is one of the last remained here. The Jozani Natural Forest Reserve is dwelt by the Red Colobus Monkey. This is a very rare species. This is a very interesting kind of monkey. It wanders freely. The monkey is also very photogenic. On the island also live Sykes' Monkey, Suni antelope, wild pig, Zanzibar leopard.  The town was recently included in the Unesco heritage. The way that city remains the same is stunning. It is like a walk through the time. The capital of Zanzibar is enfolded in history. North Coast

Another very interesting place to visit on the island. This tour ends with attendance of an old fishing village. This is the traditional place where dhow constructions have been made. The beaches here are wonderful, the same is with the coral reefs - great spot for snorkelling and diving. Here has been built a shelter for injured animals where they receive help and cares and are released back when cured.

Prison Island Tour

The island was a goal for misbehaving slaves. A jail was built in 1893 and still stands. Hence the name Prison Island. It is also known as Chumble Island. It is famous not only for the prison but also for the Giant Tortoises - they ar ethe main attraction here. They were brought here from the Seychelles in 19century. 

The island is just off the city of Stone Town. It is ideal for a day trip. There are also small restaurants where you can enjoy freshly caught fish. There are also a wonderful  whilte beach where you can sun-bathe and coral reef perfect for snorkelling.
